City of Oxford Motor Services had a penchant for AEC Regals; indeed, for AECs of any model. This pair of Regals (see accompanying image) look splendid in the company's distinctive maroon, red and duck egg blue livery - but I must confess to uncertainties in the application thereof. The lining on both vehicles appears to be a very dark colour, but I have replaced it with gold on the other image - which is correct? Also can anyone identify the bodybuilder, whose badge appears on the lower body just behind the entrance? I am grateful to Neil Mortson for the original high-quality monochrome images (29-Dec-13).

I am out of my comfort zone with this one - both in a lack of subject matter knowledge; and because of some rather confusing tones in the original monochrome version, which suggested that the darker red should be at the bottom. I have made some digital adjustments to reproduce the colours as I believe they should be but, if you know different or can provide any additional information about the vehicle depicted, please do get in touch. I am grateful to Neil Mortson for the loan of, what appears to be, an original manufacturer's print (29-Dec-13).

City of Oxford Motor Services was a loyal customer of AEC products. It bought Regent Vs with exposed radiators (as depicted here) and with 'new look' front cowls; although MCW 'Orion' bodies may have only been specified on the latter. Oxford's distinctive livery did much to offset the austere lines of the Orion body. This fictional image is based on a preserved Leeds Corporation bus photographed at the recent Keighley Bus Museum Running day (26-Nov-16).

Pennine Motor Services of Gargrave has a long history serving the lower part of the Yorkshire Dales. Originally based in the small village of Gargrave, about 5 miles north-west of Skipton, the company later relocated to the former Ribble Motor Services Skipton depot. Whilst Pennine has been on my radar for some time, I have been held back by the lack of a suitable image of the fleetname, which Howard Piltz has kindly provided. This Brush-bodied Leyland PS1 is not an actual Pennine vehicle but is typical of the style of bus operated in the post-war years. The livery incorporates more black than applied in later years (04-Dec-13).

Pennine Motors Services of Gargrave in North Yorkshire re-equipped itself with a mixed selection of second-hand Leyland Nationals in the de-regulation era. JIL 6502 was one of the simplified, short B-Series examples that were designed for less demanding rural services. Pennine ceased operating in 2014 after 89 years of service, blaming North Yorkshire County Council’s failure to reimburse revenue lost under the concessionary travel scheme (16-Apr-22).
