Following frustration with Leyland products, to which they later returned, CIE and its successors Bus Átha Cliath (Dublin Bus) and Bus Eireann looked far and wide for suitable alternatives. The GM 2-stoke powered GAC family of buses proved to be both innovative and troublesome. A better choice might have been mirror image ‘off the shelf’ North American products such as this Canadian MTB Glider 35. The registration plate on this fictitious image is possibly inappropriate, being simply ‘borrowed’ from a Dublin Bus Leyland Olympian. Once again, I’m grateful to John Lidstone for the source image a (left hand drive) Barrie Transit vehicle (02-Feb-12).

Bus Átha Cliath - Dublin Bus - didn't seem to display any interest in the Metropolitan, possibly because it was too committed to its joint venture with Bombardierat the time. As explained under the accompanying image, it subsequently evaluated the Metrobus Mk II when the Bombardier venture fell short of expectations, but no orders were forthcoming. This fictional image shows what the Metropolitan might have looked like in the attractive duo-tone green livery carried by the later Metrobus demonstrator (27-Oct-14).

After years of doing its own thing with Bombardier, Bus Átha Cliath - Dublin Bus - returned to Leyland as its principal supplier of double-deck buses in the late 1980s, taking several batches of the proven and long-lived Olympian chassis with Alexander (Belfast) bodies. Perhaps to edge its bet, it also took a single example of the MCW Metrobus Mk II with its preferred Cummins engine for evaluation purposes. Painted in full Dublin Bus duo-tone green livery, the UK registered demonstrator, ran from several garages over a six month period. No further Metrobuses followed and the demonstrator later joined the fleet of Stevensons of Uttoxeter. This fictional image supposes a different outcome with a production batch of Metrobuses receiving later yellow and blue colour scheme (27-Oct-14).

I was asked to prepare a new-style Enviro 400 in Dublin Bus livery and decided to stretch the request - literally. Dublin Bus operates a small number of the previous-style tri-axle Enviro 500s, surprisingly in single-door form. This fictional version is a natural progression. The registration is temporary until I can determine a more appropriate number (30-Jan-15).

In response to requests for something in Bus Eireann livery, here is the Plaxton Elite in the new-style Expressway livery, which has a little 'Virgin Trains' look about it. It seems to work better on some body styles than others - the Irizar i6 looks particular good. I've no idea whether BusEireann has any Plaxton Elites (31-Jan-15).
