Whilst I have already featured a wide range of Leyland Nationals, I was very pleased to receive a copy of this official Northern General view of MCN 817L (fleet number 17L) courtesy of Keith Lee and David Slater. Very few Leyland Nationals were delivered in pre-NBC colours and, even then, a single colour edict applied. Thus Northern received its first Nationals in 1972 in all-over BET red, the second colour being added in the company's workshop. Note the black wheel hubs, which were later repainted body colour. 17L was renumbered 4418 in 1975 and converted to single-door layout in 1979, receiving NBC yellow livery shortly afterwards. It was sold to United Automobile Services in 1981 (20-Apr-13).
