This isn't an exact representation; there's probably too much plumbing on the front end and other differences that I haven't spotted. But hopefully I've done sufficient to capture the character of this magnificent locomotive. Of course it's been done before in real life but that representation wasn't a runner and I didn't get any good pictures of it. Ironically I had hoped to prepare some new A4 images based on the very same locomotive in its current guise at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, but it failed to appear so I've used David Little's 2008 image of Sir Nigel Gresley.
2509 Silver Link was one of five LNER A4 Pacifics to carry this silver-grey livery, following various tests on a humble J55 shunter in 1935. The silver A4s were intended to work the Silver Jubilee service with Gresley articulated coach stock in matching colours, but could also be seen on other duties with standard teak stock as depicted here. This locomotive was repainted garter blue in 1937 and given cast nameplates, which it had briefly carried when new in 1935 (04-Oct-11).
