I suspect that regular north-east visitors will be pleased to see this digitally-coloured image of Northern General 1489, particularly those who have hopes of seeing real-life restoration project 1483 (DCN 83) in such fine condition one day. Once again I'm grateful to Keith Lee for the base image, an official view from the Go Ahead Group archives, which has previously been published in the book 'Northern and its Subsidiaries' (Autobus Review Publications). To quote the caption from that book:

"Built by Beadle in 1953 using pre-war AEC running units, Northern's coach-seated 1489 (DCN 89) gave seven years' service before being withdrawn and sold to an operator in Tenerife in the Canary Islands'.

It was one of ten Beadle chassisless coaches delivered in 1953, following an earlier batch of similar vehicles and much rebuilding and rebodying of other vehicles at a time when new chassis were in very short supply. That sister 1483 has survived at all is quite remarkable but its restoration will be a major and long-term project. More information can be found on the North East Bus Preservation Trust's website: www.nebpt.co.uk (28-Jul-10).
