Very few complete ex-UK buses entered service on Malta before the mass imports of the early 1980s. There were a few Mulliner-style Bedford OBs, but perhaps the best known British types were B'Kara buses 1823 and 1860, portrayed by this digital recreation of the Birkirkara terminus. 1823 (later DBY 401) is believed to have been a Leyland TS4 despite its AEC radiator; whilst 1860 was a genuine AEC Q-type, which later received a Bedford SB radiator. This was a very interesting image to produce from parts taken from various UK buses. The picture used for the main body panels and wheels appears to have been taken after a heavy shower, hence my decision to attempt to replicate these conditions. It's really more of a digital painting than an accurate rendition but I rather like the overall effect. Incidentally the awkward angle of the AEC radiator is an accurate representation of how it actually appeared (07-Apr-05).
