The ECW-bodied Bristol RESL Series III was popular with local authorities in the valleys of South Wales. Aberdare UDC bought an initial seven and Gelligaer UDC three. Cynon Valley Transport - successor to Aberdare UDC - bought a further nine, and Rhymney Valley District Council - which was formed by the merger of Bedwas & Machen, Caerphilly and Gelligaer UDCs - bought three. Rhymney Valley was later bought by Western Welsh and Cynon Valley by Red & White. Both companies subsequently merged to become National Welsh Omnibus Services. Several RESL passed with part of the National Welsh business to Stagecoach, becoming the only Bristol REs to receive Stagecoach corporate livery – one for the future, perhaps? (25-Feb-22).
