The Sulzer-engined BRCW Class 26 is widely regarded as BR’s best Type 2 design, outliving its updated Class 27 cousin by several years, albeit latterly confined to freight duties. Thus, whilst many received the grey ‘large logo’ freight livery, it is unlikely that any received the blue passenger-sector version depicted here. This fictional image is based on Barrow Hill-based 26007 (the pioneer D5300) photographed at Oxenhope on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (26-Nov-21).
