This style of Alexander body on AEC, Daimler and Leyland chassis was widely used by the two main Scottish bus groups, Walter Alexander & Sons and Scottish Motor Traction. It came to SMT with the business of Stark’s of Dunbar. Western SMT operated 16 coach-seated Leyland PD1s from 1949 to 1965 and, unlike other companies that downgraded them to service buses in later years, it retained their predominately cream coach livery to the end. This digital representation is based on preserved Alexander (Midland) CWG 286 photographed during a visit to Beamish Museum (22-Jun-19).
