I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to produce this series of digitally-coloured images for the NER 1903 Electric Autocar Trust, whose website can be seen here: www.electricautocar.co.uk.

The vehicle depicted is one of two pioneering petrol-electric autocars (numbers 3170 and 3171) built by the North Eastern Railway in 1903 and which have been described as the forerunners of today's trains. Remarkably, 3170 has survived and is being painstakingly rebuilt to near-original condition, but with modern running units and a diesel engine. The base image, which has been made available to the Trust by the Ken Hool Study Centre collection, depicts 3170 in original NER crimson livery. It has been digitally-coloured and modified to represent 3171 in the later red and cream NER livery. The final details are still being debated and further changes may be made in the light of new information. It is the Trust's intention to use this image for promotional purposes (17-Feb-14).
