Somehow the design has a timeless feeling and personality - wonder if that holds for any other compact out there... Just wondering...

The beaten up one is a very well used, still functional Leica D-LUX 3. My minty D-LUX 4 is in the background...

This picture was taken during a "mini photokina" event at the Leica Ginza Shop on Sunday Oct 5th. Two of the Leica design engineers had brought over all new products, including the S2, M8.2, Noctilux 0.95, Summilux 21 and 24, D-LUX 4 and the new projector.

All in all it is an M8 with minor improvements. The sensor is the same, so that's that. The snapshot mode is fairly useless unless you don't know the difference between aperture and focal length. It only works with wide angle lenses as it assumes the user will not know how to focus sharply.

The new shutter is indeed very silent, discreet and light to trigger - it is very nice indeed. However you will have to sacrifice shooting at 1/8000 which is a drawback if you shoot with Noctilux wide open in full daylight... The black version is very stealthy. I personally like the nostalgic look of the chrome version much more and am happy it is not dropped (every one else seems to buy the black one)

The rendering with the 21mm is beautiful - however these are fairly bulky, so not something to carry around like a super angulon, etc.

I'll stick to the M8 for now...
