A few years old now, I decided to have a proper "go" at getting the look I really wanted from this shot, and think I got it somewhere close. I really wanted to express the light in this, the way it flooded through this misty woodland as the sun rose above some low cloud and mist. To help achieve this, I accentuated the highlights a little throughout the image, whilst keeping some dark shades to help create the impression I was looking for. Some attractive colour contrast between cool and warm helped give the image a sense of fleeting change, the moment just as cool, misty shadow changed to bright, warm sunlight.

The low-lying mist blurred the line between land and sky completely, giving this image a slightly unusual, yet very evocative feel. Luckily, the sky provided some beautiful clouds, allowing me to keep the "horizon" low in the image. I aimed to create a slightly magical, unearthly atmosphere in the overall image, which thanks to the weather conditions has worked quite well.

"Borrowed" the title for this from one of my favourite Lindisfarne songs, which gets stuck in my head from time to time, as these things do.
You can read into the title whatever you want (usually the sign of a good song lyric, as it's open to whatever interpretation the listener feels is right), but in the case of this image, it kind of fits in with the idea of something lasting a long time - "until Kingdom Come". This is because we lived at the farm at the top of the hill (centre of the horizon, where the tall trees are) from sometime in 1970 to 1974. I was only 6 when we first arrived, and I have so many happy memories of the years here, including going up and down this track on foot, bike, and riding on a tractor driven by my father.
Doesn't look much different as far as I remember - the big ash tree in the foreground would have been younger, and I don't think much rapeseed was grown in the early 70's, but otherwise I could pretty much be 7 or 8 years old again.
Funny how some things can look the same, and yet are so completely different - it's like two worlds absolutely separated forever by time, and yet it feels so familiar... my experience of life in the early 70's is no less "real" in my memory than last week, and yet feels at the same time so long ago. Standing here made me feel as though I could almost "connect" with the past, as if I could shut my eyes, and open them again in 1972.
Growing old(er) is a funny thing!!!

Originally out on the "Nicely out of tune" album, released in 1970, funnily enough.... No wonder it keeps popping into my head...

A little mist, a warm sunrise, and the beginnings of Autumn colours combined to create these wonderful colours and misty atmosphere.

I liked the composition of this Winter scene, though I can't put my finger on why. Normally, I would crop in closer to the trees, but this wider view seemed better - I think it adds more of a sense of space and room. interestingly, the amount of "empty" sky about balances the amount of "full" detailed and textured land and trees. Maybe this imparts a sense of balance and "right-ness" to the image that gives it, in my opinion, an interesting and aesthetic feel.
The cool areas of the scene naturally enhance the soft, warm glow of the rising sun, adding a beautiful colour contrast throughout the image.
Shot and processed in HDR, then finished in Lightroom.
