Here we are past the winter solstice and a Maple tree in the next street is still hanging on... It's been a mild winter so far.

Here's a leaf from next door's tree caught in my deck in the early Spring sunshine. This image was taken with the first of two legacy lenses I picked up the other day.
This image is with the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35/2.4 in M42 on the Sony. It is an interesting beastie. Pretty damn sharp stopped down, OK bokeh wide open and my copy close-focusses to about 120mm. Tones are on the cool side. Needs a bit of contrast.
On the Sony it's at native resolution. On the Fuji, it's much sharper across the frame (no surprise given crop factor) and it makes a handy 50mm macro :-)

A fairly common site in Iceland's ante-highlands - a bright green moss-covered hill, mountain or volcano rises from a black ash plain.
Here the F208 cuts southward toward Landmannalaugar across the windblown Tungnaá outwash wasteland comprised of ash, black sand and desperate grass.
There are no binding agents in the soil so water just drains away. Only where a bird or a wandering sheep might poop will a plant establish and then it's touch and go - this is why driving off-road is illegal...

There is a bit of banding in this image but dammed if I can shake it - I guess it is related to it being a two frame stitch, the angle of the sun, the high altitude cirrus and flickr's random rendering engine :-(
Just in case you're wondering - I left the XF35/1.4 at home and took the Flek instead :-)

The contrast between this photo and the previous pic of Löðmundur says more about the nature of Iceland than words can possibly convey. Here in the light of a late autumn afternoon and with sheep grazing in the foreground the mountain and the landscape seem benign. Five kilometers back up the road (around to the right) and it's a dark and brooding volcanic wasteland. Such a land of contrasts.
In the foreground is the vale of the Klykkugilskvísl stream with the road sign in the middle of the pic warning of one of the many fords on the F225. Pretty dry when we were there but a different story in the spring.
Only other thing of note is the lens used is a Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35/2.4. Carried it all the way around Iceland and took about 4 photos with it!

Looking southward into the North Atlantic from Stórhöfði, the southern-most tip of Heimaey (home island) in the Vestmannaeyjar Islands. South Iceland.
