Selby Abbey was founded by Benedict of Auxerre in 1069 and built in the Norman style similar to Durham Cathedral. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in 1539 the church remained unused until 1618 when it became Selby’s Parish Church. It’s a beautiful and impressive church – well worth a visit!
