These amazing clouds seen over the Isle of Wight from about 4000 feet are caused by "Geographic uplift".
For those interested it is an adiabatic process where the air being pushed up by the cliffs is cooled & the water condenses into cloud or fog.
At the end of this peninsular is "the needles"

The rugged cliffs along the Southern shore of Alderney in the Channel Islands. I have struggled for ages to get an image that shows the scale of these cliffs, but the little lumps on the right are actually people! They are looking at the gannet colony that is on the two offshore rocks you can see.

The Needles is a chalk rock formation on one end of the Isle of Wight. It always amazes me that there is a lighthouse there at the end.

Corblets is the main surfing beach on Alderney. In this photo there are two of the Fourteen Victorian Forts on the island as well. - Who can spot the Nazi bunkers too?
Taken from the Trislander as it approached the airport in beautiful fine weather.
DRI from a single RAW (because the plane was moving!)
