As a special request, from simoncampbell I present the Police Station on Alderney!
It is the building on the left. It is also the Courts. This is QE2 Street, and the Courts building used to be the "States" building. The "States of Alderney" is the government of the Island.
Thanks to gsx-r750 for pointing out that this was called "New Street" before 1977, when the Queen visited.

Simon's request was fortuitous, as this now becomes the first in an occasional series of THEN & NOW photos. - SEE THE COMMENT BELOW

Above is the same spot in 1902 for the Coronation of King Edward!
Note that teh same tree is still shading the street, which is actually growing in the graveyard.
(thanks to John Elsbury for the old postcard)

The Huret is piece of road that runs from the end of the High Street to Maris Square. It used to be a place where people met, for Civic occasions.
It is amazing how little has changed since 1900. See the comment below.

Do Cars Moo? ( See the image below) - Another in my occasional series of "Alderney Then & Now"
This is Maris Square 2008. The drinking trough is still there, but the famous "Alderney Cows" have disappeared to be replaced by cars.
The Alderney cow is a breed that seems to have died out during the the War.
(thanks to John Elsbury for the old postcard)

This is another in my occasional series of then & now images of Alderney.
This old, hand coloured shot is from around 1905 is called "The Town Clock". The clock is actually the spire of the old church, and the gate here would have lead to the school, which is the building on the right with the chimney.
This is now the entrance to the museum.
(thanks to John Elsbury for the old postcard)
