I am not so sure.
It is symbolic... the sun being kind of basking in God's love, being blessed, and being in the dark the opposite... not feeling love or feeling like nothing is going right.
With weather like this I must have done something wrong.

Food, food everywhere - when all you want is a drink.
In order to stay profitable and open almost all pubs now serve food at some time. The "Iron Duke" in Wellington serves from breakfast time to late evening. Not gourmet but good solid reliable and cheap.

In British slang, a carpenter is sometimes referred to as a "chippy".
