The giraffe (Giraffa) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant.

Fully grown giraffes stand 4.3. - 5.7 m (14.1 - 18.7 ft) tall, with males taller than females. The tallest recorded male was 5.88 m (19.3 ft). Despite its long neck and legs, the giraffe's body is relatively short. Located at both sides of the head, the giraffe's large, bulging eyes give it good all-round vision from its great height. Giraffes see in colour and their senses of hearing and smell are also sharp. The animal can close its muscular nostrils to protect against sandstorms and ants.

The giraffe's prehensile tongue is about 45 cm (18 in) long. It is purplish-black in colour, perhaps to protect against sunburn, and is useful for grasping foliage, as well as for grooming and cleaning the animal's nose. The upper lip of the giraffe is also prehensile and useful when foraging and is covered in hair to protect against thorns. The tongue and inside of the mouth are covered in papillae.

This close up head shot of Masai Giraffe was captured during my last visit to Maasai Mara, Sept 2015.
Tallest animal in the world, neck has only 7 vertebrae as in humans.Short horns in both sexes are bony out-growths from skull, not true horns.Excellent vision.Inhabit open acacia woodlands, desert grass-bush and shrub forest.Feed on browsing, esp acacia leaves, pods and soft thorns using their prehensile upper lips and 45 cms tongue for grasping the vegetation.

African leopards (Panthera pardus pardus) are one of the two big cats, along with the lion and included in the big five of Africa, that inhabit the continent of Africa.

The African leopard exhibits great variation in coat color, depending on location and habitat. Coat colour varies from pale yellow to deep gold or tawny, and sometimes black, and is patterned with black rosettes while the head, lower limbs and belly are spotted with solid black.

The leopard has an exceptional ability to adapt to changes in prey availability, and has a very broad diet. Small prey are taken where large ungulates are less common. The known prey of leopards ranges from dung beetles to adult elands, which can reach 900 kg (2,000 lb). In sub-Saharan Africa, at least 92 prey species have been documented in leopard scat including rodents, birds, small and large antelopes, hyraxes and hares, and arthropods. They generally focus their hunting activity on locally abundant medium-sized ungulates in the 20 to 80 kg (44 to 176 lb) range, while opportunistically taking other prey.

This shot of the magnificent leopard was captured during my last visit to Masai Mara,Sept 2017. It was a great pleasure to see it again resting peacefully in between the ridges nearby a river......
