Constructed in 1913 as a depot and electric substation for the Illinois Terminal System (known after 1937 as the Illinois Terminal Railroad), this is one of the few remaining Interurban depots to be found on the Illinois prairie. The interurban line ran three-car trains between Springfield and Danville, and was the only interurban line in the country operating sleeping cars. The structure is now a private residence.

Interurban service on the ITR was reduced after WWII, and ended altogether in 1956. (The ITR's freight operations continued until 1982, when it was absorbed by the Norfolk & Western Railroad.) A second ITR depot can be found in my Buffalo IL (Set).

Fithian is a village in Vermilion County, and is located in East Central Illinois about 20 miles west of Danville. The population was 457 at the 2010 census.

More photographs of Fithian can be found in my "Fithian IL" set.

The First Bank of Fithian was established in 1895, and this building was constructed as its home in 1912. In later years the building served as the village's Post Office. Today it is occupied by Country Chics, a boutique gift shop.
