Meet Mr. Gerry Berry, who has one of the most delightful names I've ever come across ( a fellow by the name of Justin Tyme is a close competitor, but I digress). Gerry is a 1977 graduate of the National Barber College in Springfield. The school closed the same or next year after he graduated.

Over the course of his career, Gerry had worked at three Springfield barber shops, but had always dreamed of having his own shop in a small town. That opportunity arrived last year when the owner of Mike's Barber Shop, an Auburn institution, suddenly passed away. Gerry purchased the shop late last year and renamed it "Gerry's Barber Shop". Gerry told me that he loves the small town atmosphere of Auburn, and enjoys being a part of the community.

Gerry has plans to add more old-time barbershop memorabilia to his shop in the coming months and years. The space we are looking at in this old building has been a barber shop since about 1960, but Gerry would like to reach back even further by decorating with items from the golden age of his profession.
