This is the sign one sees when entering Bulpitt from the west on Illinois Route 104 (locally known as Parker St.) says the village has a population of 250, but the 2000 U.S. Census lists 206 people living here, and it doesn't appear there has been a population boom over the past nine years.

Bulpitt is a village in Christian County, and is located about 19 miles SE of Springfield. The population of Bulpitt was 206 at the 2000 Census.

On December 27, 2008, high winds tore through Central Illinois, and Bulpitt was one of several small villages and towns that found itself in the path of the storm. The winds caused the roof and walls of this former gas station - which had been in use as a storage garage - to cave in. The building, which has since been demolished and replaced by a metal structure of about the same size, was in the center of town on the SE corner of Illinois Rt. 104 (Parker St.) and Main St. Several other buildings and homes were damaged by the winds, and it is easy to see why the locals I spoke with referred to the straight line winds as a tornado. On the same day in Springfield, a middle school less than a mile from where we live had half of its roof torn off.

Bulpitt is a village in Christian County, and is located about 19 miles SE of Springfield. The population of Bulpitt was 206 at the 2000 Census.

A drive-by shooting taken in 2009 in Bulpitt, a small village in Christian County, Illinois. The fire truck was damaged when tornado force winds in December 2008 collapsed an old gas station where the vehicle was parked.

You are invited to stay and browse through my stream. Here's a quick introduction to my little corner of Flickr:

Automobile Photographs
: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)

Central Illinois (excluding Springfield)
: Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield) may be found in this collection. Every city and town I've photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "countryside") photographs are grouped by county.

Springfield, Illinois
: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.

The Illinois State Fair
: My collection of photographs of the Illinois State Fair. The fair offers something for everyone. Grab a corn dog and lemon shake-up, and come take a look!

Beyond Central Illinois
: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I've put together:

Barbers & Barber Shops
: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.

Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!
: Included topics range from man's first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.

I'm certain the high winds that damaged several buildings in Bulpitt did no favors to this old house, which probably already was in poor condition and is located directly across Main St. from the collapsed former gas station. This view of the front porch was taken in February 2009.

Bulpitt is a village in Christian County, and is located about 19 miles SE of Springfield. The population of Bulpitt was 206 at the 2000 Census.
