This view is to the west entering Lanesville, a very small farming community on Old Route 36 in Sangamon County. Travelling along at the speed limit, you can pass through this place in less than 30 seconds.

The most prominent feature of Lanesville is the Mechanicsburg Farmers Grain Company Elevator seen straight ahead. In addition to the grain elevator, there are a few farm houses on either side of the tracks, along with the Lanesville Township Hall.

Lanesville is a populated place located in Sangamon County along Old Route 36, and is about 17 miles east of Springfield. The population of all of Lanesville Township was 199 at the 2000 census.

The most interesting structure I was able to find in Lanesville is this weathered and worn depot-like building that serves as an office for the Mechanicsburg Farmers Grain Company.

Although the Illinois Traction System Interurban did once stop in Lanesville, this building never saw service as a depot. I'm told it was constructed specifically as an office for the grain company.
