One of the biggest surprises in stepping outside on to the 87th floor observatory of the Empire State Building is the presence of pigeons. I had no idea pigeons were such high altitude travelers. (maybe it is just city pigeons - for all I know a flock may just be the first passengers on the elevators going up in the morning, and take the last ride down at night. Either way, the pigeons certainly know how to pose for a photographer. This view is looking north. The Hudson River is on the left, and Central Park can be spotted on the far right.
