Along our route from Fairbanks to Deadhorse Alaska we saw several mammals: red fox, shown here, arctic fox, ground squirrels, caribou, moose, and muskox. The animals are not acclimated and either departed before we could find a place to stop or kept their distance. During the day the temperature difference between the ground and the air caused heat waves interfering with the ability to obtain a clean image. This image suffers from a bit of it, but I thought it was good enough to share and touch base on this topic. Steve Perry has a good YouTube on the issue which I recommend watching. Sometimes, it’s just not possible to get a clean shot. It’s not you, it’s not the camera, it’s the atmosphere. If you can get close enough you can mitigate this effect, or sometimes the effect is close to the ground and a higher target may not be affected.
