Notes on the name: I went to college with a Hawaiian boy named Bixby. I was mildly obsessed with his name just because it had an X in it. We were never close, though, and it's usually strange for me to explain to someone that I collect names... but I do and I have, ever since I was a little girl.

Notes on the name: (thanks Wikipedia) The Bake-kujira (化鯨, literally "ghost whale") is a mythical Japanese yōkai (ghost, phantom, or strange apparition) from western Japan. It is supposedly a large ghostly skeleton whale and is said to be accompanied by strange birds and fish.

Notes on the name: not much, it was something I saw on a sign / poster in Berlin and I scrawled it down in a nerdy excel sheet. But this camera... broke !! In the middle of this project - the lens no longer closes down below f2. Good thing I was using a finer ISO, then, but it's why many of these images ended up overexposed (and some feature one exposure much more prominently than the other, which is why we have some images like this). Also, the original idea was to photograph myself in the morning (LOLOL whenever that is), but the sun started to come in SO bright this spring, that I had to wait until mid afternoon or sometimes evening to take my self portrait.

Notes on the name: this is a town in Germany that I have never visited but would very much like to. This camera came from an ex and has a cool 'made in the USSR' inscription on it, and unfortunately does not allow an ISO higher than 400. But it's been more enjoyable and less accurate ;) than the overly fancy Contax T2. I would sell the T2 over this camera any day because of how cute and small it is AND the weird way it loads - I can get 39 shots per 35mm roll if I am careful!

Notes on the name: I put a b in front of 'Aphra Behn,' who was a relatively well traveled woman of her time that made her living as a playwright, despite it being pretty unheard of to do so (in the 1600s). Sadly, this camera may or may not be broken - I need to find out why I can't seem to load it properly, but I haven't met anyone in Berlin who can assist with this camera that takes 35mm film and shoots it like motion picture film.
