Hi Everyone,
I'm trying something a bit different this year by uploading a video for my annual Christmas post. Not sure how many of you will see this, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Most of the content for this was taken last February over three consecutive snow storms in Yosemite Valley. During the first one, I was actually snowed in as they closed the roads in and out of Yosemite before closing the roads in the park itself as heavy, wet snow brought down several trees and branches throughout the park. While it was a bit sketchy shooting in the park that day, it was definitely amazing to shoot fresh snow in a nearly empty park.

I'm also trying desperately to keep my blog going which I think now has a total of two posts this year. It's been a real challenge to keep posting content there as I've started teaching a new online class at the college and have also been doing quite a bit of traveling this year. If you want to check out my new article, feel free to visit at theresonantlandscape.com .

After banging my head against the wall with Adobe Premiere, I finally switched over to DaVinci Resolve to edit this video. SO much easier! I'm thinking about upgrading to the 4k version for future projects. The quality of this video isn't the best as I wasn't there to shoot video, so what you see here is either shot with my iPhone or GoPro along with some stills from my Nikon.

Anyway, I just wanted to wish all of my friends here on Flickr a very Merry Christmas! I hope to catch up and see as many of your photos as possible over the holidays. :)

All the best,
WM

This is the third year that I've put together a video to look back over my shots from the entire year. Included in this video are any shots that I posted either here on Flickr or on my blog. Instead of posting them in chronological order I posted them from sunrise to sunset in a "Day in the Life" format. Unfortunately, flickr chops videos off at exactly 3 minutes, so the last few shots are missing. If you'd like to see the entirety of this, feel free to check it out on my blog, which also has the retrospective from last year as well. You may find both videos on their entirety at:

The Resonant Landscape

Here's to a brighter 2017!

Looking back on 2014, I'd have to say that it was definitely a year of getting a bit more serious about honing my craft as a landscape photographer. There were multiple trips to Yosemite and the Sierras, Laguna, Big Sur, Joshua Tree, and the East Coast where sometimes I would wander off alone, but most often in the company of very good friends. Looking back on my shots from last year, I found myself smiling as I recalled several all nighters, early mornings, and good conversations.

But out of all of the locations last year, my trip to Glacier National Park stands out as a transformative experience and one that I will remember for the rest of my life. There's something about sharing an epic sunrise while standing precariously perched on the side of a mountain with four fellow landscape photographers in a howling wind that just gets into your blood and stays with you. The views were simply epic in every direction and I can't wait to head back there as soon as I figure out a way to pay for it.

2014 was also a year where I was able to upgrade my website and finally delve into the world of social media a bit more opening accounts on Tumblr, Pinterest, and Facebook. I have a new blog in the works and I hope to have it up and running in the next few weeks.

In the mean time, I have immensely enjoyed looking at the work of my fellow photographers here on Flickr and I look forward to seeing many more of your shots in the coming year. THANK YOU to all of you for your photos, encouragement, views and feedback. Here's wishing you a happy and prosperous 2014!

Note: This is the short version, edited for the 3 min time limit on Flickr. If have nothing better to do and want to see the full five minutes, please feel free to check it out at:

This is my second year of posting a year in review slideshow after getting the idea from my friend Matt Pasant. The shots in this retrospective include Yosemite, Tahoe, San Francisco, Page Arizona, Big Sur, Laguna Beach, Disneyland, Los Angeles, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

One of the highlights of the year had to be the trip to Yosemite in February with Gregg, Todd, Ryan, Corey, Tom, Patti, Dan, Don, Jeff, and several others to shoot the Horsetail Fall and the death defying hike up the four mile trail in the snow. Other highlights featured multiple trips to Disneyland, hanging out with Mike Besant and Fred Wolfe in West Virginia, George Fletcher & Mike in Virginia, and Matt Pasant and Dan Huntley in Dallas.

Low points would have to be slipping on the ice in Yosemite and falling on my back on top of a giant boulder, getting pulled over at 4 AM in Virginia , getting shut out of Washington and Shenandoah National Park due to the stupid government shutdown, and watching my 28-300 lens roll past me before it pitched itself off of Yosemite Point to fall over 2000 feet below.

As I'm sure many of you can relate to, it's been a year of long drives, short nights, zero percent financing, and many sacrifices as I've tried to keep getting better as a photographer while holding down a full time job. So many of you have been a key part of that as I've looked at hundreds, maybe thousands of photos by many of you, all of which inspire me to keep honing whatever skill I might have in hopes of doing this full time in about 8 years.

So THANK YOU to all of you for your photos, encouragement, views and feedback. Here's wishing you a happy and prosperous 2014!
