Every September, I usually find myself missing the Canadian Rockies. I've been up there twice during that month and each time I've been amazed by the juxtaposition of the seasons. While temperatures back home in Southern California often soar well into the 100's, I found myself driving through snowstorms on both trips with the overnight lows dipping into the low 30's and upper 20's.
It started snowing early during my last trip in 2018. A few days before this shot was taken, Banff was covered in 4 inches of snow and the folks on the news were predicting an early Winter. We were worried that we weren't going to be able to fly out to Assiniboine, but the storm broke just long enough for us to take off, land and get our camp set up. And then it snowed again. But freezing your butt off in Assiniboine and getting up at 4 AM are almost always worth it as you are often rewarded with views like this. To stand on that ridge overlooking the snow covered peaks with clouds racing overhead and larch trees turning gold in all directions...it's pure magic.
I was really hoping to go up to the Canadian Rockies again this Autumn or Winter, but after checking the Covid warnings, I decided it would probably be best to wait until Fall of 2022. It seems that they are currently running random Covid tests on people coming out of the airport and even though I have already recovered from Covid and have been vaccinated, if I picked up this Delta thing on the plane and tested positive, I would be stuck in a hotel room for fourteen days! No thank you.
I'm hoping that this whole Covid thing will be a distant memory when I make my next attempt in September of 2022. :)
