I've been up and down the coast south of Portland, but rarely venture north. I have been planning on hitting the mid coast but weather was not cooperating this week so I took a trip up to the Falmouth Town Landing after seeing many shots from some local flickr friends.

One of the things I love about long exposure is it allows you to capture some relatively new looks on well documented subjects. Looking forward to exploring some more in this area. Any suggestions out there?

Man I don’t know how I’ve gone my entire life without going out to Schoodic Point. Part of Acadia National Park it’s separated from MDI by just a few miles across the water but about an hours drive from Bar Harbor. I grew up on MDI and have spent years criss crossing the Island but somehow just never found my way to Schoodic. Took a quick drive through the other morning and the possibilities are endless. I’ll be back soon!

I think I mentioned before that I took a quick trip up to Acadia a couple of weeks back and it completely kicked my ass. This shot here is an example. From this spot, I could see a dozen vantage points that I wanted to be at but not a single one is accessable to me without taking risks I am not willing to make at 4 am. As popular as Acadia is, I would guess only a handful of people a year actually stand on the rocks down there by the water. It looks pretty tame here but there is no way to physically make it down there without scaling 30 foot drops. Maybe someday I'll find somebody to rappel me down there.

Well... Long time no see Flickr! I've decided to get back into the photo game after a long long time away. Who's still here? Just a quick iPhone shot from a recent trip I took with my boys into Sequoia National Park. Something about the immensity of these trees just can't be described or captured.
Also I'm blown away by what you can capture, edit and post within seconds on a mobile device these days...
Anyway, I've finally joined the instagram world so give me a follow at www.instagram.com/moechenphotography/ to follow my journey as I try and figure out how the photo world has changed while I was away!

looks better Large On Black

For those of you who are familiar with the coast of Maine, and have had the chance to browse my photostream, you may have noticed there is something missing. That would be everything that is here in this photo! The barnacles, the seaweed, the dead mussel shells, the seagull feathers, the perriwinkles (which are so prevelant throughout Maine, you would never guess they aren't even native to this continent!).

I have a tendency to consider these items unphotogenic so I do everything I can to avoid them. Shooting at high tide, in areas of high surf where they do not grow, etc. I thought I would celebrate them a little bit here because they are such a huge part of what makes Maine what it is. This photo was taken at extreme low tide, just as the kids (mine and others!) came in from a successful evening of critter finding (nothing kids find more amusing than finding living things in the muck!)

Had to run back as everybody was waiting at the car because I realized I shot this first at f.5. I have been doing that more and more lately...

Two shot Vertorama again, each composed of 5xp HDR.
