Same place, similar composition as last photo but the processing couldn't be more different here. I feel that I have been overprocessing things a bit lately so I went a little light here. The previous photo from Old Orchard Beach I posted was a very similar composition of the other side of this pier but was processed from 14 images. This one is a single shot RAW with some curves adjustment and a warming filter applied. In retrospect, should probably have toned the blues down a bit, polarizer left a bit of an uneven blue in the sky.
I have got a dozen shots in my mind that I want to take but really need the right conditions to take them. Still waiting...
Quick word on explore. Man they have made some changes. I still see some clunkers on there but the last few days I have seen some unbelievable photos from new people. Really humbling to be honest. Gives me even more motivation to get out there and improve.

This is such a simple shot, but the conditions haven't been there to capture this for months! Finally lucked out last night. I was playing in the front yard with the boys when I noticed some clouds finally appearing in the sky near sunset. Excused myself for a few minutes to grab this shot. There's something to be said for living 7 minutes from the beach...

Don't mean to be repetetive but I figured this is different enough from the last post that it wouldn't be too boring. This is taken about 1/2 hour before the previous shot on my stream. Two shot vertorama about 30 minutes before the sun rose. These were actually the first shots of the day, I was just testing out comps before really setting up. I got lucky though, the big fluorescent street lamps had not turned off yet and they illuminated the pier. The funky green lights that they have in the stockrooms or kitchens of the businesses on the pier were all on as well lighting up the windows on the pier.
Sometimes I like black and white shots for the simple fact that i think they look better hanging on a wall than color shots.
I'm not sure how I feel abou the black nothingness in the lower right but it seems to balance the shot a bit. Plus there's nothing I can really do about it. Not too much to the processing here, just the black and white conversion and curves. When I tried to sharpen it everything went to crap, so no sharpening even.
What do you all consider to be the correct etiquette? By shooting from this angle I was probably in the shot of another photographer or two this morning. However I beat them there by a good hour to stake out my composition. Should I be obligated to move if I see them shooting the pier?

Seems like shooting time is getting more and more precious. Typical amount of time I am actually shooting when I go out is about 20-40 minutes. Maybe an hour or two drive time and then I am out of time and need to be back somewhere as soon as I get setup.
Anyway, enough crying. Every now and then the mood hits me to shoot stuff like this. I don't have enough stops ND filters to get me more than 30 seconds after sun approaches horizon so the water is not smoothed out on the right side as much as I would like. Maybe I'll fix it in post processing sometime.
This is two shot vertorama. Kind of interesting what happened in processing. I did a high key black and white and then layered at 70% with hard light and the sky stayed high key but the contrast boosted on the rocks. Didn't really expect that but I like it.

OK, here is my last try from yesterday's sunrise shoot. I like this one better than the one I posted already.
If I am going to be doing this much DRI I really need to get myself a pen and tablet. Some detail work I left alone because I didn't feel like fudging around with the mouse.
Black and white version is included, I think it's kind of neat just because of the strong lines of the rail line. Also included the 0 EV straight out of camera image for reference.
