Made it back out to Schoodic Point for the second time. I had a 2 hour window between Milky Way appearance and moon rise which was just enough time for two compositions. I still shoot these nightscapes the old fashioned way which requires lots of waiting around for 5 minute focus stack foreground shots to finish. Which on this night consisted of intermittent bouts of playing words with friends, listening to podcasts, watching Netflix and dancing in circles keeping my tootsies warm. I don’t know if that’s what most people think goes into making these images but that’s my reality!

Would have preferred it was high tide here but you take what you can get. All the planning in the world can’t change mother natures plans. Clouds rolled into this picture as I was taking my foreground shots wrapping up the night a little early.
It’s funny I used to be terrified of the dark. It still takes me a little bit to get acclimated and random sounds still spook me out but it’s oddly comforting being alone out under the stars. I left this one a bit dark. Didn’t seem right to light it up like daylight when it took a few minutes of adjusting to the darkness to even make out individual rocks on the ground in person. Crazy to think that all the light you see is generated by nothing but the stars (and the planets! I’ve seen my shadow from Venus before)
