Aerial photograph of the properly socially-distanced queue outside of the Acme Bread Company, a wonderful bakery in Berkeley, California.

Notice the red hearts on the pavement
showing the proper distancing required for safety from infection by the coronavirus.

Aerial view of the EMBMUD wastewater treatment facility in Oakland, California.

Researchers have determined that testing sewage for coronavirus may be a viable way to identify community COVID-19 outbreaks prior to cases surging in local hospitals. This technique may be helpful in making up for the woefully inadequate availability of individual coronavirus testing in the U.S. It may also turn out to be useful for determining when lockdowns can be loosened or must be increased to prevent healthcare system overload.

Aerial view of Point Isabel, a dog park with no dogs and no masters due to the coronavirus lockdown of Spring 2020.

At 43 acres, Point Isabel is one of the largest dog parks in the United States and is usually teaming with dogs and people on a gorgeous spring morning.

San Francisco, San Francisco Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge can be seen in the background.

Update: The park has reopened as of June 1st, but dogs have to remain on leash for now, That seemed to be a deal-breaker for most people because there were very few people and dogs there today (June 4th.)

Aerial view of a lightly traveled MacArthur Maze freeway interchange at rush hour during the coronavirus lockdown of spring 2020.

So much space between vehicles. The air became noticeably cleaner during the lockdown. I wish it was always like this! By early June 2020 the traffic has increased considerably.

Seen in the distant background are San Francisco's skyline, the Bay Bridge, and the Port of Oakland. EBMUD's wastewater treatment facility is seen in the middle circled by the roadways.
