There was an incredible sunset on the evening of the maiden voyage of my helium balloon lofted camera. In the foreground is the Campanile (bell tower) which stands 307 ft. high, with the U.C. Berkeley campus and the rest of Berkeley unfolding out to San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate.

César Chávez Park is a 90 acre park on San Francisco Bay which is the site of the former City of Berkeley landfill. It had spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, lots of wildlife (including burrowing owls, barn owls, and occasional seals), and is the site of the annual Berkeley Kite Festival.
The park has a wonderful 1.25 mile perimeter trail, and this is the place I come most often for a walk or bike ride.
The engineering required to turn an old landfill into a park is staggering. Here's an amazing description of the system built to control the methane gas generated by the decomposing refuse: wasteage.com/mag/waste_miles_pipe_underground/

Aerial view of Aquatic Park in Berkeley, California.
This park, created by the WPA in the 1930s, features a long lagoon, a tree-lined bicycle and pedestrian path, a large children's playground, and a disc golf course. The park is a popular spot for boating and waterfowl viewing.
The park is bounded by the railroad tracks to the east, Interstate 80 to the west, University Avenue to the north, and Ashby Avenue to the south.
