It was a beautiful March evening as the sun sank lower in the sky in this spectacular location on Mt. Tamalpais, overlooking Stinson Beach and the Pacific Ocean.

The wind shifted more than 90 degrees while we were here, and became strong enough that it was a struggle to bring down the large kites we needed at first to lift our cameras. Fantastic effort to make it up here, our second location of the day, and to adapt to the changing conditions by Pierre, Heidy, Cris, Scott, Rick and Diane.

Many years ago for a friend's bachelor party we hiked from the east side of Mt. Tamalpais to Stinson Beach starting in the evening. A couple of people had earlier hidden caches of food and drink in a few spots on the mountain. The road seen in this photo closes after sunset, and we actually napped on it for an hour or two in the middle of the night. Crazy youth.....great memories.

Most prominent in the photo are the Federal Building (right), The California State Building (left), and Oakland City Hall (domed, upper center). Lake Merritt can be seen along the top of the frame.

My office, for 6 years, was in the center of the cylinder of windows in the state building (left), on the 17th floor. Until seeing this view, I had always thought that the windows were tinted blue because they reflected the sky. In this photo, they're reflecting the darkened streets below.

Oakland City hall is a beautiful Beaux-Arts style building which was completed in 1914. It was the first high-rise government office building in the United States, and, at the time it was built, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. It stands 320 feet tall and comprises 18 stories. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Also visible in this photograph are the twin towers of the U.S. Federal building (left), and the California State building (right, where I worked on the 17th floor for 6 years).

The rice terraces in Tirtagangga are fantastic. I was lucky enough to have the old style ox driven plowing taking place during my visit (more easily seen in the large version).

After my previous few kite photography sessions with very light winds, I was finally able to get some decent steady breezes coming off the sea.
