Taken with my new T2i with a 250mm (400mm equiv) lens, standing on a chair in my kitchen with the window open. The feeder was about 4 feet away.
I was able to capture some of this male's iridescence. Those crazy feathers around the throat are called a "gorget". This, apparently, drives the females wild! Hopefully that is so, and this will result in the creation of another nest in the yard this spring.
I've been thinking about having the capability to take good quality HD video with a telephoto lens ever since I shot this sub-par video of amazing hummingbird behavior last March: www.flickr.com/photos/ml_kap/4399558326/
Gotta start somewhere.....I promise to improve my video skills.....
