One of my joys is seeing this ‘fireglow’ Japanese maple in the sunlight against a cloudless blue sky.

There was a penumbral lunar eclipse last night. Since the forecast was for cloud cover, I went out at 11:28 p.m. just to take a photo of the full Worm Moon through my backyard trees before the clouds obscured it. I then went to bed, having set my alarm for a few minutes before the peak eclipse was to occur at 3:16 a.m. Luckily, the sky was totally clear then, and I was able to take several photos of the moon at or minutes past peak. As is often the case, my camera loses clarity when I shoot a full moon, even one partially obscured by the moon moving through the faint, outer part of the Earth’s shadow.
Here is a description of the event from the ever-informative timeanddate.com site:
“The curvature of the shadow's path and the apparent rotation of the Moon's disk is due to the Earth's rotation.
During this penumbral lunar eclipse, the Earth's main shadow did not cover the Moon. As the Earth's shadow (umbra) misses the Moon during a penumbral lunar eclipse, there were no other locations on Earth where the Moon appeared partially or totally eclipsed during this event. A penumbral lunar eclipse can be a bit hard to see as the shadowed part is only a little bit fainter than the rest of the Moon.”
and
“A penumbral lunar eclipse takes place when the Moon moves through the faint, outer part of Earth's shadow, the penumbra. This type of eclipse is not as dramatic as other types of lunar eclipses and is often mistaken for a regular Full Moon.”

It’s hard for my camera to capture Brown-headed nuthatches. To make this shot presentable, I used Topaz Studio’s fur and feathers plug-in.

My favorite season starts at 11:06 p.m. here in Atlanta. After a sub-freezing start this morning, it has already warmed up to 44º.
Please check out this site to find when spring starts where you live.
