Discovered these funny looking horns, sticking out of a mud-bank along Fox Lake, on my first bicycle outing of the season. At one time in history there were also caribou in our neck of the woods. After the big fire in 1998 I found several caribou antlers in the valley and on the hills that had previously been hidden in the peat moss.

This wolf is a repeat visitor. Last year he showed up on August 6th and was digging at the edge of our potato field. We were surprised to see him again today [July 24th], looking even leaner and darker than in this photo from last year. He circled the house and stopped briefly to sniff out some piled up caribou antlers, then headed on towards the neighbors.
