My daughter Spot

This is my other daughter, Spot. She it my favorite (don't tell Bridget). She's cuddly. Loving. She likes balls and chews up sticks and then cough up big chunks of wood chips. Oh, and she loves humping legs. OK, maybe she's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

She understands many spoken words. She responds to the words... "Food", "Hungry", "Breakfast", "Eat", "Dinner", "Snack", "Cookie" and "BALL!"

I guess I actually did learn something in College. There is nothing more difficult to photograph than black stuff (except chrome stuff and clear stuff) One of my photography classes gave us an assignment to shoot something black against black. This way the subject isn't fighting against a bright background. It worked great. I really enjoyed that assignment. You just have to rely purely on lighting to bring your subject to life.

No. I didn't get a new dog. Though I might have to kidnap this one when I leave here. She is so cute.I have always wanted a St Bernard.

One of the girls that works at the campground I am staying in has this beautiful St Bernard. This is Maddy. The two of us took a ride up around American Basin a few days ago and brought the dogs along. I have seen a lot of dogs that like to play in the snow, but nothing like this! She spotted this patch of snow and made a mad dash for it. Jumped into the snow like she was diving into a pool. For about 20 minutes, she was jumping and twirling around. She would go to the top of the hill, flip over on her back, and slide all the way down the hill, then run back to the top and do it again. Then we got to smell wet dog all the way home.

BTW… Her tail is dyed pink because her Mom gets tired of everyone always calling her… "He".

It’s been a really sad week around here. I had to bid a fond farewell to one of the greatest friends I have ever had. My black Lab, Spot. I’ve had several dogs, and most have their quirks and annoy the crap out of me from time to time. But. Spot was just… Perfect. I honestly can not remember ever being mad at her for one minute of her entire life. The only quirk I can think of was her obsession with humping legs. She was a not the most dainty of girls. Definitely a bit of a lesbo.

I shot this just a few days ago. Thought I’d do one last portrait of her. Amazingly, she was only a couple months away from turning 15 years old. Pretty amazing for a pure breed large dog. She has been by my side since she was 10 weeks old.

She has had a great life. She has been in 46 different states. She has gotten to swim in the Atlantic Ocean, The Pacific. The Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of St Laurence. The Great Lakes. The Bay of Fundi. Great Salt Lake. Etc. Etc... Spot loved to swim.

Bridget!

How appropriate that I managed to catch one with her tongue out. Bridget is obsessed with licking things. It drives us nuts! Usually when we sit down to relax and watch TV, she starts licking and chewing on her feet. Then she licks the couch. We push her off the couch and she starts licking the floor and the legs of the table. Then she licks her ass. Then she jumps back up on the couch and wants to lick our faces.
