Well, this SUCKS!!!
I got up this morning well before sunrise. I was hoping to catch the Dawn Patrol. Every morning, while it's still almost dark, they send up a dozen or so balloons. I remember them last year, lighting up the night sky. I went outside, no Dawn Patrol. The motorhome next to me has this colorful spinnie thing hanging from their awning. It was spinning furiously. I immediately thought... Shit!!! They're not launching today. I was so looking forward to today! Today was supposed to be a Mass Ascension day. Last year, the final Saturday of the event was by FAR the BEST day of the entire event! There were more balloons than any other day, a great sky, and no wind. No wind meant it pretty much sucked for ballooning, but man it was great for photography, because they all went up and just sat there. So, I dug through the archives. Here's one from last year, taken on that final Saturday. Just one of hundreds of photos I shot that morning, and never got around to adjusting and posting. It was an amazing morning. At least this gave me something to work on, as I sit here watching stuff blow by my window.
I have decided that a balloon festival without any balloons is really quite boring!

This is the last shot I took, just seconds before jumping on board. The pilot was starting to get annoyed that I was still out shooting pictures, and hadn't gotten in yet.

On the final Sunday of the Albuquoiquee Ballon Fiesta, we had the greatest sky.
This was right at the end of the festival, as you can see by the fact that there are barely any balloons left on the ground.

Yes... I still have some Balloon Fiesta photos to work on.
After several stormy days, this was an absolutely incredible morning for photography, with the Sandia Mountains freshly snowcapped. I've never seen that before during the Balloon Fiesta, and probably never will again. The festival is the first week in October, and the weather is usually quite warm.

It's a gray and gloomy day here in Colorado, so I thought it would be nice to post something colorful and happy. What could possibly be more cheerful than a bunch of F#@&!#G balloons!
I dug this one from the archives. This is the first year since I've had this job, that I didn't make it to the balloon festival in Albiquerquee. I went three years in a row. This photo was from three years ago, when the weather was fantastic. The past two years, the weather has sucked and the festival was cancelled practically every day. I found that the Albuquerquey balloon festival without any balloons is pretty dull. Albaquirque is really quite ugly!
I know everyone was anxiously waiting for me to post a bunch of balloon photos this year, and it never happened. So... Here ya go. I shot something like 1600 photos of the festival that first year. There are PLENTY more in the archives.
