This is from almost a year ago when Jill and I took a ride up the coast of California. I so wish I could do the coast again this year, but I am heading the other way. I just felt like looking back at some of those photos. That coast was so beautiful.

This was shot along the famous 17 mile drive, near Monterey. You can see a few houses tucked in between the trees along the coast here. This is where California's cheap real estate is.

I'm still in Mesa, AZ. I can drive 17 miles here and actually see 17 Walmarts.

If I had to pick one favorite spot from my six months on the road, I'd have to say it was Redwoods National Park. This was shot early on a beautiful foggy morning there. This is not to be confused with Muir Woods, which is this fairly lame forest just north of San Francisco with these little 8-10 foot wide Redwood trees. Redwood National Park is on the northernmost part of the California coast, almost into Oregon. The trees there are twice the size of the ones in Muir Woods. Many are over 20 feet wide. They are not as wide as the Sequoia trees in the eastern California, but they are taller. The tallest trees in the world are here. There are several that are around 370 feet tall. That's like a 37 story building!

Here's one from back in June as I made a slow trip up the California coast. That was my absolute favorite part of my six months on the road. I LOVED Big Sur, San Francisco, Redwoods National Park. The California coast is just spectacular!

This was a very long time exposure, shot in almost complete darkness. This was about a seven minute time exposure. I've been wanting to work on this one for months. It took quite a bit of work evening out the lighting in photoshop. It was just a single exposure, but I opened the same exposure several times in camera raw trying to pull out more highlight and shadow detail and more contrast in the sky.
