Continuing the review of my extended roadtrip. After the Lake Tahoe sidetrip, I started heading southeast towards Texas. On the way, I couldn't resist stopping at Carlsbad Caverns National Park again. It is just such an absolutely AMAZING place! It's the worlds largest cave. The floor of the Big Room is large enough to hold something like 18 football fields, and in some places, the ceiling is over 200 feet high. And, all this is 800 feet underground! It's impossible to truly show the scale of the place in a photo. The Stalagmites in this first photo are easily 100 feet tall, and probably 40 feet wide. By complete coincidence, my friend Jill was just at Carlsbad this morning, as she heads out west. That's not why I posted this. It just happened to be next on my list.
BTW... These things are not really green, it's just the funky lighting they have on them.

A couple nights ago, I reluctantly took a ride to White Sands National Monument. The sky was getting really overcast, and I was pretty much convinced that I was wasting my time. I was very close to turning around and giving up. Well... It cleared up a bit, and ended up being a spectacular sunset. This was taken about a half hour after sunset, at dusk.

Another mediocre shot of this spectacular place. Carlsbad Caverns are on par with the Grand Canyon, and the giant trees of Seqoia National Park, as one of the most impressive places I've ever seen. Unfortunantly it has to be one of the most difficult places I've ever tried to shoot. I don't think I can possibly do justice to such an amazing place. This shot is 5 different shots all merged in photoshop. It's a 3 shot HDR, merged with 2 other shots I did with off camera flashes.

Here are a couple photos from Aztec Ruins National Monument, in northern New Mexico. This was from the second morning of the cold, snowy roadtrip to Colorado a couple weeks ago. The circular ruin in the foreground is a very large kiva.

I thought this would be appropriate, as we wrap up the holiday season. (although it was about 80 degrees here, today)
It's another from the archives. This week, I've been going back through a bunch of old stuff I've shot in New Mexico, for some kind of project my boss is working on.
This is from a couple years ago, up in the mountains near Santa Fe, where I was staying. There was a fall snow storm, near the ski resort they have up there. So, I threw my truck in four wheel drive and headed up there for some shooting.
