Snow in the San Juan Mountains...
Here's another from my morning in Durango. This was a few miles north of the Purgatory ski resort. That's about as far north as I made it before bailing out, and turning around. Shortly after this, the snow started coming down so hard that I couldn't even get any photos.
This actually is a color photo, though you'd never know it.

Here's a couple photos of the road through Rocky Mountain National Park, from my snowy visit a couple weeks ago. It was very cold, and the snow was dry and powdery, so it didn't look like it would be very slippery. It was. It was SUPER slippery! The day before the storm the temperature was in the 50's. I think the storm must have started as rain and then the cold front hit. Underneath the snow was a solid sheet of ice. It was a bit scary, sliding around on the sections of road that had no guardrail.

These first two were taken Monday afternoon at Bear Lake, in Rocky Mountain National Park. Monday morning was great. It was snowing, but not too hard. It was cold, but not too cold. It was windy, but not too windy. Then, I drove down to Estes Park for some lunch. Then, I came back into the park and headed to Bear Lake, and, oh my GOD!!! I've been to Bear Lake before, but only in July and August… And, it's cold THEN… This redefined COLD!!! I got out of my truck and it felt like I stepped out onto the north pole… In January! I must have been about 15 degrees, with about 60 MPH continuous wind! I had on a good down coat, winter boots, gloves and a hat. All that was exposed was my eyes. I shielded them from the wind, put my head down, and walked to the lake. I couldn't get any wide shots of the entire lake. It was snowing way too hard. You couldn't see the mountains on the other side of the lake. It was just a wall of white, so, I had to do tighter shots. I lasted about 45 minutes. Got as many shots as I could. Then, made it back to my truck. I couldn't feel my feet. I couldn't move my fingers. And… My face felt like it had been sandblasted! My camera was covered with snow. Looking back on it, it was kinda cool… Literally.
