This was taken along the Big Sur coast of California one stormy day back in June. Big Sur, and the Redwoods were definitely my favorite part of that six month roadtrip.

Yesssssssssss!!! I'm finally back in my element. The desert is interesting and all, but the Ocean is my happy place. I have often said that if it wasn't for trips to Maine when I was a kid, I probably never would have become a photographer. I was always so inspired by that rocky coastline. So... Today, I finally made it to Big Sur. It's some of the most spectacular coastline in the country, and I haven't been here in 17 years. Didn't make it this far south on the big 2001 roadtrip. Haven't been here since 1992. It was a fantastic evening for shooting. Yes, the sky is real.

I have a lot of photos that I have described as one of my favorites. Well here it is. MY FAVORITE SHOT EVER!!! I shot this in 2002 in Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. It was just one of those lucky moments to catch on film. It was not doctored in Photoshop. Nothing major anyway. Increased contrast in the sky, and brightened the rocks in the foreground, which is stuff I could have done in the darkroom. Got rid of a few people walking aound on the rocks, otherwise, the negative looks exactly like this. The ironic thing is, I thought I was totally wasting my time waiting for the sunset. It was very overcast. The sun was behind the clouds, and it was just a gray, dreary, ugly evening. Just a minute before the sun set, the sun dropped below the clouds. With the sun exposed, the landscape transformed into this magical scene. One minute later, the sun dropped below the horizon, and everything turned gray and dreary again.

Just playing around with time exposures a couple of nights ago, on the beach, in Spring Lake, NJ. This was a 6 second exposure, taken shortly before sunset. The long exposure blurred out all the barrels of toxic waste floating in the water.
