I was looking through Explore the other day when it suddenly occurred to me that I was the only photographer on Flickr who didn't have a lameass photo of a Sunflower. So... I dropped everything and immediately went out in search of sunflowers. Well... Here it is! My lameass Sunflower photo.

No matter how many times I fly, I still find it fascinating every time, looking out the window, at the topside of the clouds. ...But, then... I saw this guy, out on the wing, and he was messing with one of the engines! So... I ran up to the cockpit, to tell the pilot, that there was a guy, out on the wing, and he was messing with one of the engines, and we were going to crash! And then, they hit me with a taser, because they thought I was a terrorist, trying to take over the plane. Nobody would believe me that there was a guy, out on the wing, messing with one of the engines. Nobody else could see him, just me... Apparently, everybody else on the plane was completely nuts. So, when we landed, I was arrested.

Alright... Now here is a seriously random old picture that I just stumbled upon, and thought it would be kind of fun to put up here. This was from back in my days at the Coast Star newspaper. One of my favorite pastimes there was putting together funny screen savers for my computer. Most involved cut n' paste pictures of Herb. This is Herb. He was the old photographer who I worked with in my early days at the Coast Star. I probably pasted this cut out of herb into a hundred different pictures. Herb was a VERY interesting character. As far as photography, Herb was famous for 2 things. #1 - He almost never remembered to put film in his camera. #2 - He never got out of his car to take a photo. We called them Herb's drive-by shootings. I used to have to adjust his stuff in Photoshop. I always started by cropping the rear-view mirror out of the corner of the photo.

I've been playing in Photoshop with my favorite photo. I tried adding the Orton effect to see how it would look. I thought it would just make it look blurry and crappy. Surprisingly, I loved it. This photo has such a magical, painterly quality, I think the Orton effect really enhances that. People have always thought this photo looks like a painting. They probably think that because, this photo does look like a painting. And... Once again... As I said in my description of the original version. This picture was not majorly Photoshopped. I did some darkening of the sky. Increased contrast in the rocks, and got rid of some people walking around the lighthouse... And... Now I added the Orton effect. If you printed the negative in a darkroom, it would look pretty much like this.
