There is about a 10 mile stretch of coastline on the northwest coast of Hawaii that has no road. The valleys are too big and deep for the road to continue. This is the northern end of that coast. The road ends here. It's the Pololu Valley. If you want to see the southern end, look for my Waipio Valley shots.

Well, here it is, My favorite photo from Hawaii. I can't claim it's my favorite photo ever because I've already claimed that with my Peggy's Cove picture. But this is a damn close second! After taking the frightening, dangerous, trecherous road down into Waipio Valley, this is the view from the bottom. In the background are the two highest waterfalls in Hawaii.

What more can I say? It's a sunset, in Kona. The nice thing about being a photographer on an island is you can catch the sunrise over the ocean, then drive around and get the sunset over the ocean the same day.

This is the Puna section of Hawaii's big island. This is the prettiest section of coastline on the entire island. Oddly enough, It's also the place where all the strange people live. Somehow they've all accumulated here. A book I read about Hawaii before I went, warned that Puna is the place where druggies, homeless people, hippies, and the dreadlock crowd all seem to co-exist without stepping on each others toes.
