North Cascades National Park, Washington state. This is one of many lakes fed by glacial runoff. One interesting fact about glaciers. As they scrape down the side of mountains, they gather up minerals and debris, as they melt and turn into lakes, the water they create turns this amazing milky aqua blue color.

And, here it is... Crater Lake! I can see why this place is a National Park. It's absolutely spectacular. The first glimpse I got of this lake really did have the same breathtaking quality I felt the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Sequoia... And so many others. Yes, the water really is that blue. It is the most spectacular blue water I have ever seen! What this is, is a lake in the middle of a volcanic crater. This volcano blew it's top off thousands of years ago. Now the crater has filled with water and formed a lake about 8 miles across. It's one of the worlds deepest lakes, nearly 2000 feet deep, at it's deepest point. This place has jumped right onto my top five list. The top five WORST MOSQUITO PLACES I'VE EVER SEEN!!! It's not number one. But, it's close. The number one spot is still the Everglades in June. (don't go to the Everglades in June) The number two spot was Alaska in June. (don't go to Alaska in June) You'd think that a place as cold as Alaska wouldn't have any Mosquitoes. You'd be WRONG!!! Those guys were the size of a single engine airplane. I think Crater Lake came in third place. It was bad enough that I wouldn't waste my time trying to swat just a single Mosquito. I wouldn't bother swatting unless I thought I could kill 4 or 5 in one swat. Or worse yet... The smear! Where you just rub your hands up and down your arms and legs and smear them, covering yourself with a shell of Mosquito guts. That's always pleasant. Alright... I've gotta go. I'm itchy.
And... Yes... That is snow in the foreground.
