This was taken from Mt Ranier, Washington, looking out towards the surrounding mountains. I love the cloud sitting below the mountaintops. On the ground was 18 inches of freshly fallen snow. It was mid June.

These are the Olympic mountains of Olympic National Park. The thing that is so unique about these mountains, and this park is how close these mountains are to the ocean. Here, you have snow capped mountains only 40-50 miles from the Pacific coast. All the rain clouds that come across the Pacific Ocean hit these mountains and dump. The coastal section of Olympic National Park is all rainforest. These mountains are the reason why.

North Cascades National Park, Washington state. This is one of many lakes fed by glacial runoff. One interesting fact about glaciers. As they scrape down the side of mountains, they gather up minerals and debris, as they melt and turn into lakes, the water they create turns this amazing milky aqua blue color.
