I've been in Denver for the past five Days or so. So far, the few photos I have taken here have all been crap. The weather has been miserable, and I've been busy installing all my software in my new computer. I HATE setting up a new computer from scratch. Anyway, it finally stopped raining, and we had a nice afternoon today. I visited the Denver Zoo. For 15 years, I have been wanting to get a nice closeup of a Siberian Tiger's face. I have always thought they are the most beautiful animal on the planet. After only 15 years of trying, I finally got one I like!
About 15 years ago, I was working for my first newspaper. This small local zoo managed to get a little baby Siberian Tiger. It weighed about 10 pounds when he got it. Every week or two, the paper would send me to the zoo to take pictures of it. It was the cutest little animal that I have EVER seen! Each time it doubled in size. I actually used to get to play with it like it was a puppy. Unfortunately, all my photo equipment was junk then, so none of the pictures are very good. But anyway, I'll never forget, a couple of months after he got it, I went to get some more photos. I have NEVER seen an animal with strength like that. By then he weighed about 40 pounds. About the size of a medium sized Dog. 40 pounds of pure muscle. I probably weighed about 170 pounds. Well... He recognized me. He ran over, jumped up, wrapped his arms around my waist, and just muscled me to the ground! It was like I was tackled by an NFL football player!

This is from yesterdays photo shoot at Bearizona, a new wildlife refuge in Williams, AZ. It's hard to tell scale in this photo, but this little bear cub is about two feet tall, and weighs only about 20 pounds. She was a rambunctious little critter. The trainer was trying to keep her calm, and keep her where I needed her to get some nice shots. I was laying down on the ground to get a lower angle. She kept coming over and pouncing on me. One time, she came over and started licking my lens. I've always wanted to play with a Bear cub. They're so cute. So, I finally got to. After I finished shooting photos of this little one, I figured I could rile her up. I wrestled with her. I was playing with her. She was just like a puppy. Rolling around and nibbling on my fingers. Then she chomped down on my arm and left a red mark. I'm thinking lawsuit!

This is my first photo ever to receive over 100,000 views. I still don't know where everyone is seeing it. It just hit 100,000 today. I know for a while if you did a search on Yahoo for 'Lion' this was one of the sample images.
This was shot in the Naples Zoo in Florida.

Here's another from last month's trip to Denver zoo. I love Leopards. What a beautiful animal this guy is. Shot this with my 300mm f2.8 lens with a 2x converter, making it into a 600mm.
