Here is another from Lower Antelope Canyon a few mornings ago. They had just re-opened the canyon when I got there. It had been closed for several days due to flooding from all the rain we had last week. Every time it rains up in the mountains a flash flood blasts through this place carrying with it, rocks and debris. It is those flash floods that carved this place.

The story that Lower Antelope Canyon is famous for happened about 12 years ago... A dozen or so tourists were down there. It was a clear sunny day. BUT... There was a thunderstorm up in the mountains. The Indians who run the place were telling the people that they had to get out because of the rain. The people did not want to leave because where they were was clear and sunny, so they didn't believe there was any danger. Well... Soon the flash flood pounded through the place and killed them all. All they found of them were a few scattered body parts.

I believe this ladder was just put there as an emergency escape route, just in case the place started flooding again. It's not usually there. Normally I hate having man-made elements in my landscape photos, but I really liked how the ladder gave this scale.
