I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

This is a re-post from a very long time ago.

I can't believe it has really been 10 years..... Time flies... It was on Memorial Day weekend, 10 years ago that I left on the trip of a lifetime, driving this...

This was the trip that really changed my life.

I left my job at the newspaper and headed across the country for three months. I visited 18 different National Parks on that trip. The first one was Badlands, in South Dakota. Then... Yellowstone. Grand Tetons. Spent a while around the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. Then, up to Mt Ranier, in Washington. Olympic National Park, which is still one of the most fantastic places I have ever seen. Then, drove all the way down the Pacific Coast Highway, from Washington to San Francisco. Then across the state to Yosemite. Sequoia. Death Valley. Drove through Vegas, over the Hoover Dam and to the Grand Canyon. Then Utah. Hit Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches. Finally visited Colorado. Stayed for a while at Rocky Mountain National Park. Then started heading back home to New Jersey.

This trip truly changed my life. I finally saw just how much was out there. I had lived in New Jersey all of my life. I didn't know that there were places where you could drive for three hours and not pass a single building. (or gas station) I got back and thought... 'I don't want to be here any more.'

I really miss my Trans-Am and the pop up camper. Not quite as comfortable as the motorhome, but damn was it fun to drive that thing around the mountain roads.

It's hard to believe it has really been 10 years since I set out on this trip. What a life changing experience it was seeing just how much was out there.

This was shot while passing through the Grand Tetons National Park.
