The Milwaukee Art Museum is quite simply a masterpiece. This has now become my favorite building. I really don't recommend buildings or structures that much, but if you find yourself with a day to spend and are within distance of Milwaukee - I would recommend spending that day at this museum.
The building was designed by Santiago Calatrava. I have long suspected that Calatrava was my favorite architect, but have never been to one of his buildings until now. Chicago does not yet have a building by him and I typically don't take trips based on buildings. My suspicions about Calatrava were confirmed as I was really impressed by his work.
I found the building to be art in itself, a spiritual journey that was moving and fun. I really want to talk right now at length about repetition of structure, but let's wait for that. It will be a long, drawn out album (like all of my work) and we can take our time.

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. It is a day of remembering the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
I do not believe in war or armed conflict as a viable means solving our issues. While the history of our planet has shown that sometimes war has been needed, unfortunately, most times it is not. Governments and leaders should feel shame and dishonor if they lead us into unnecessary war. However......
A soldier is not part of the discussion of how or why - they follow orders. The soldier risks their own life to preserve the way of life oftheir family, their friends, their neighbors and of their countrymen.
Whether or not I want them to and whether or not I feel that they should: it is and must be an honor that someone would lose their life on my behalf so that I may lead my life.
To all who have lost someone at war: today that person is remembered and honored.
